3 Plants Your Cat Will Adore in Their Outside Cat Enclosure Catio

Deciding which plants you will have around or in your catio outside cat enclosure is an important part of your cat enclosure plans. Since many plants can be toxic to cats I am dedicating this article to three great plants that are healthy both to humans and felines and make a great accessory for your cat cage or a safe environment surrounding your cat proof fence. Have you ever wondered why dogs and cats graze on grass? The fact is, animals need green vegetables like people do.Your pets instinctively eat greens grass to balance their protein-rich diets.

This is why planting oat grass, wheat grass and catnip around your cat proof fence or placing a container inside your catio can make a healthy and attractive addition to your cat house. Pets, like similar species in the wild, are meant to eat at least a small amount of greens. The enzymes in oat grass seem to be particularly helpful for the digestive tracts in some animals. Small containers of oat grass can easily be grown indoors as long as there is sufficient sunlight. Cats especially will take an interest in sprouted grasses.

Another great plant to add to your cat enclosure plans is wheat grass; the most concentrated green leafy vegetable available. You can easily and economically supplement your pet diet with wheat grass and grow it yourself.

Wheat grass contains high concentrations of chlorophyll, enzymes, anti-oxidant nutrients, vitamins A, B-complex, C, E, and K, minerals and a complete set of amino acids. So how do these nutrients add up to healthier, happier pets? The powerful nutrients contained in wheat grass are known to promote healthy night vision; improve gum, skin and coat health; neutralize infection; heal wounds; and decrease inflammation, among other benefits.

Another plant appropriate for your outside cat house is Catnip. This is especially true if you have kittens. Most cats and especially kittens thrive on catnip. Catnip (Nepata cataria) is a member of the mint family (Labiatae). It is a perennial herb that grows up to 3 feet. So it may be most appropriate to surround your cat proof fence with this leafy plant. Take care your catio or outdoor cat house is tall enough to accommodate your fully grown catnip. These are three healthy and easy to grow plants you can include in your cat enclosure plans or surrounding your catio or cat proof fence.
